Dr. Karl Polanyi

Bennington, Vermont

My dear Polanyi,

Yes, I know that you applied to the Guggenheim Foundation. I had a letter just the day from Foundation concerning your application. I am very glad you felt free to use my name, and of course you know I did what I could to help you.

I shall be very much interested in reading your article in Harper's. Certainly you ought to be able to give some exceedingly worth-while points of view with respect to America's policy toward Russia.

The challenges offered to Mrs. Polanyi, as well as to yourself, in making contributions in this great struggle are certainly very large ones. I know you will both meet these challenges with real success.

Very cordially yours,

Signature
Commissioner.
