My dear Karli,

We have not made a very good job of eliminating extra-familial stumbling blades to our true sentiments. This is constantly on my mind, and I have written innumerable letters in my head with a view to eliminating or {circum}venting this block. I shall leave all these letters unwritten for the moment, but am sending a message that may go some way toward this aim in form of the MS of my Terry Lectures. They are heavy (20 000 words) and are being sent therefore separated you have always been most generous in your response to my philosophic writings, even though may smuggle in some thoughts on which we are separated. So I hope you will be brought nearer to me by glancing at these pages.

We have leaving on a holyday to... [...] I hope to find some news from you my return. Meanwhile, you will have spent Christmas eve with the young people, and have added to your happy thoughts lucky man,
