I have a copy right … […] Publication date is now seb. for April 13, a delay caused by their plan of getting pre-publication comments from Beard, Wallace, etc. Those comments ought to be coming in any day now. (I&amp;#039;m not as well informed about this as I should be, but King Gordon left Farrar a couple of weeks ago and went over to &amp;lt;u&amp;gt;The Nation&amp;lt;/u&amp;gt;. So I no longer have a close personal tie-up with the company.)&lt;br /&gt;

I hope the various changes, deletions, and re-arrangements that I made in the text + notes will meet your approval, Karl. I {{Page |n°=15}} worried a lot about them, but there wasn&amp;#039;t time to consult you. As you will see, I wrote a brief &amp;quot;apology&amp;quot; which lets you out if any bouers have been made. I thought it only fair to explain that you had not had a chance to go over the proofs.&lt;br /&gt;

I gave a copy to my friend Lawrence Thomson, a young naval officer who has written a couple of articles for us and who has been my closest friend for many years. He has never done much reading in economics or history, and I was uncertain how the book would strike him. Yesterday, at lunch, he reported that he was already 1/3 of the way through the book, and had been interested all the way - but - (and here is where I hide my head in shame!) that the most fascinating chapter of all had been the one about the Trobriand Islanders. There now! You&amp;#039;ll have to admit that I accept humiliation unequivocally. &lt;br /&gt;
